Wednesday November 30th 

 

9:00 am FREE HIV TESTING AND COUNSELING EVENT 

Location: UMSA, University of Saint Augustin. Calle 72 on the corner of 47 Santiago.

HIV testing and counseling campaign. 

BAI will also be signing a new agreement with the current City Administration which will run for 3 years. The agreement consolidates our testing and linkage to care programs and enhances and expands BAI’s testing and counseling outreach to underserved areas in the community. The goal is that by year 3 we will be able to provide testing and counseling to all 27 City health centers in Mérida. Fundación BAI and its allies will provide testing supplies, training and supervision.

 

6:00 pm CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL IN SANTA ANA PARK

Join us in a new initiative in remembrance of those friends we have lost because of AIDS. There will be a huge red ribbon and some candles are being provided, but do please also bring your own.  

 

8:30 pm CYCLE RIDE FOR LIFE!  200 riders will spread the message by cycling from Santa Ana and throughout centro.  You are very welcome to bring your bicycle and join them! Bicycles will also be available for rent.

 

Thursday December 1st

8:00 pm LIGHTING THE TOWN HALL AND THE MONUMENT OF THE PATRIA IN RED 

Location: West side of the Main Square, opposite the Town Hall. Calle 62 between 61 and 63, Centro. We are meeting at the TOWN HALL this year.

This is a very important moment of remembrance and something we do annually. We are looking for a large turnout this year, with the US Consul, David Mico, and a group from the US Consulate attending, as well as Press and various organizations and support groups who help those living with HIV. After the Lighting, we will be going to Hennessys for a drink. WEAR RED if you like.

Friday December 2nd

10:00 am to 7:00 pm FREE HIV TESTING MARATHON WITH COUNSELING IN MERIDA CENTRO

Location: Eulogio Rosado Park, the little square near the market and “post office” City Museum. 100s will be tested. BAI have organized this in conjunction with its allies.

Tuesday December 6th

 

6:00 pm to 8:00 pm AIDS FORUM AND OFFICIAL CLOSING CEREMONY OF EVENTS

Location: Auditorium of the Research Centre of the University of Yucatan, known as “Hideyo Noguchi”. Avenida Itzaes at the junction of Calle 59 by the Zoo.

A round table forum with State Officials, HIV specialists and people living with HIV, who will talk about their different perspectives on the State of Yucatan and how it deals with HIV and AIDS. What is improving, what can be done to make things better. The current situation regarding HIV. Followed by a closing ceremony. In Spanish.

 

Everyone is welcome to attend all the above events. We particularly encourage you to come to the Candle Light Vigil (a new event!) and the Lighting of the Town Hall. And if you can, to wear some item of RED clothing.
